HANKS BELTS GENERAL QUESTIONS

For the best fit we suggest you measure a belt you already wear. Please measure from where the buckle loops over the belt buckle to the hole you wear the belt in. If you get an odd number then you would round up to the next size.
If you do not have a belt to measure, then we suggest you order 2 sizes up from your pant size.
We only carry even sizes 32-60
Hanks Belts are USA Made from the finest full grain leathers, never processed or bonded leather.
This results in a strong belt that will never crack apart, break, or stretch excessively. If it does, send it back and we will replace it with the original size, style and color ordered.
As much as we would like to we can't be responsible for weight gain or loss. The warranty covers the belt in the original size purchased only.
The warranty covers the Chicago screws and buckles.
This warranty covers product material and construction under intended wear and use. Our leather belts are intended to be worn with pants and to hold appropriate gear, such as holsters and various utility equipment specifically meant for attaching to belts. Accidents such as chemical spills, animals chewing on the belt and damage caused by misuse are not covered and will render the warranty void.
In some cases, we will require an upgrade to a heavier duty belt if the original one you have is not sturdy enough for your use.
On wallets, the warranty only covers the linings or plastic ID covers in the wallet. for 5 years. We manufacture most of our wallets without linings or plastic components for this very reason. However, many customers requested these features so we have included them in a few select wallets. The plastic components will fail in time so if this is a concern we recommend purchasing a wallet without these
Full grain leather is not intended to be exposed to water for prolonged periods of time. Although you can wear your belt in all types of weather if it gets repeatedly soaked and dried it will become damaged. If your belt has been subjected to excessive water or improper storage in damp areas it voids the warranty.
All belts will curve and mold to your body and this is expected and actually desired for the most comfortable fit. This is not a defect so is not a warranty issue. Here is an article explaining this:
My Belt Curves
Excessive stretching is covered under normal use of our belts if the proper belt for the intended use is purchased. We have several weights from 14oz to 20oz with Steel Core reinforcement. We would consider excessive stretching anything over an inch and a half. Stretching or elongating of the holes is normal on leather belts up to 3/8". Stretching due to water damage or uses other than the intended purpose ( like you used it as a tow strap or you used our casual belt for a carrying 3lbs of gear) are not covered.
In the event the belt you have is no longer available we will refund in full or credit you towards a different style belt.
Most of our belts will have Nickel in the buckles.
Some of our premium belts come with a stainless buckle standard and you can also swap the buckle out your self to any buckle of your choosing once you have it since all our belts have removable buckles. At the current time we do not shorten belts. Our solid 1 piece leather belts can be cut if you desire. It will result in the holes going all the way to the end but it will not effect the strength of the belt and will not void the warranty unless cut in such a way as to damage the integrity of the belt. If you are somewhat handy and would like to shorten the belt yourself from the buckle end here is an instructional video on the process. The number of holes depends on the style of the belt. Most of our belts have Eight or Six holes. Some have holes the entire length.
On every belt page by the description is a Tab that Says "Specs". Click on this tab and you will see a chart of the specifications for this belt. There is a row that gives the number of holes on the belt.
The spacing of the holes on the majority of our belts is approximately 1". However some specialty belts may have different spacings.

Sometimes the Chicago Screws can be a bit stubborn to remove. If you are having issues please try the below recommendations which almost always result in the easy removal of the screws.
First, we recommend trying to place the back of the screws on a sticky mat like a jar opener or rubber mat. Then press down firmly with the screwdriver and use a quick jerking motion with the wrist to try to snap them loose. If that doesn't work you can almost always get them off with a piece of scotch tape. Place the tape across the head of the screw the width of the belt. Then while pressing down firmly on the head turn the back and they should come right off. Now this may slightly remove the finish by the screws but it will be covered up by the belt once fastened. Also rubbing with your finger usually makes it unnoticeable and it will disappear in time. If that is something that would bother you then don't use the tape if the first method doesn't work.
Our most popular belt width is 1 1/2" wide and this will fit through the majority of Jean and Casual pant loops without issue.
Some lower end pants and jeans skimp and cut their belt loops shorter, and you may have issues but this is very rare.
For dress pants you can pretty much tell by looking. If they look very narrow they may be designed for dress belts,but again this is very rare.
On our 1 3/4" and 2" wide belts you would want to measure your loops to see if they would accommodate those width belts. Most brand names jeans will take both those widths.
Yes, Full Grain leather belts can squeak against Kydex or Leather holsters. Most of the time this disappears with use. Here are a few ideas from users we gathered from Gun forums:
- You can use talc/baby powder between the belt clips / belt and holster..... also some leather conditioner between the leather and the clips / holster.
- Rub some soap on the holster clips.
- Some people say stickier substances actually help. Apply some automotive belt dressing to the holster clips.
If you Google, "Stop my holster from squeaking" you can see other suggestions from gun forums around the internet also.
IWB and OWB refer to the method of which a person carries their firearm.
IWB means Inside the Waistband where the holster and firearm are tucked inside the pants.
OWB is Outside the Waistband and the firearm is on the outside of the pants or jeans.

Some slight dye transfer can occur when new or if the belts get wet on some of our styles. This is rare and again the most common cause of this is if your belt gets excessively wet.
This will generally come out in washing the clothes. In some instances though if left unwashed for an extended period of time the dye may set.
We manufacture many of our belts to size 60.
Due to a combination of low demand, and trouble procuring hides in the sizes needed to make extended length belts, we have discontinued manufacturing belts above a size 60.

On all our belts with the exception of the reinforced belts you can punch holes in your belt if you lose weight.
Punching holes in your belt will not void the warranty unless you punch them so close to other holes it causes them to break into each other. Leave at least 3/4" between holes.

We only make our products as pictured. We do not make custom products or are able to modify our styles by changing buckles or other components. We are set up to produce our products according to particular specifications and don't have the procedures in place to make custom one-off items. They are manufactured, packaged, and distributed to the warehouses for fast same-day shipping.
- Every couple of months or so wipe your wallet down with a damp cloth that is almost dry. This will remove any surface dirt.
- About twice a year rub a very small amount of Hanks Belt Dressing on the wallet using your finger if desired. Please note this will darken the leather somewhat. Use a very small amount and rub clean with a dry rag after application to prevent transfer to your pants.
- Don't overstuff your wallet. This can stress seams and leather. Load it up...just don't overdo it.
- If you are not going to be using your wallet do not store it in a hot or cold environment. Also, avoid basements and damp environments. Place it in a dresser drawer or other area in your living space. Basements and attics are a no-no.
- Leathers number one enemy is water. If your wallet gets soaked empty the contents from it and let it air dry naturally. Don't use hair dryers or put it in the oven. This will cause the leather to become brittle and hard. Once dry gently massage the wallet to restore softness or apply a light coating of Hanks Belt Dressing with your finger. Most of our wallets are made from goatskin which handles water much better than cowhide, Still, water is the number one enemy.

Keep It Dry
The biggest threat to any leather belt is repeated wet and dry. If your belt gets wet, you must not accelerate the drying process and allow the belt to dry naturally on its own. This means no using hair dryers or placing over a heat source. This can dry out the leather and leave it hard and brittle. Instead, hang your belt in an open area of room temperature and allow it to dry on its own. Once dry then just put on and use. Your body heat in most cases will re-soften the leather, and you will be good to go! In the rare case the belt becomes excessively hard you can apply a coat of our belt dressing to facilitate in softening the leather, just don't overdo it, or you can make the belt soft.
Storing Your Belt
If you're ever not going to wear your belt for an extended period, store in an upstairs living space. Do not store leather clothing in an attic, basement, or unheated area. Leather is susceptible to mold in damp basement areas and drying and cracking in hot areas like an attic.
I Get My Belts Wet!
If you do work or use your belt in an environment where repeated wet and dry cycles are just a fact of life take a look at our Old World Harness Belt. The Harness leather we use in this belt is specifically designed to resist moisture. Though not magic it will hold up the best in wet environments.

LTP belts ( less than perfect) are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged. There is a one year warranty on LTP belts. An LTP belt is a Less Than perfect Belt. They may have scars, nicks, scratches outside of the normal range, they may be Chipped or Blemished or have the Buckles with Scuffs. There may be abrasions from customers trying on belts, or the color is out of spec or there could be inconsistent dyeing or thickness or slightly out of spec. WARRANTY ISSUE
If you are having an issue with any of your Hanks products and it has been over 90 days, please fill out our warranty form at https://returns.hanksbelts.com/#/. It takes up to 3 business days to get a response.
If you are missing Chicago screws or have a broken buckle please send an email to [email protected] and customer service will get that taken care of for you.
We replace those Chicago screws and/ or buckle at no charge under our 100 year warranty. Please send an email to [email protected] along with your name and address the order was placed under. Please let customer service know which belt it is for. We will also need you to verify your current shipping address. Then your new Chicago screws or buckle will be sent out ASAP!
The Italian wallets are meant to only hold one card per slot. If more than 1 card is used it will void the 100 year warranty.
